There are some simple things that you can do to help maintain your fridge and prevent issues like food spoilage;

1. Clean your door seals; Regularly cleaning your fridge door seals can help to extend their life span. Wipe them down regularly with warm soapy water to remove any food residue and prevent mould build up and to prevent them drying out and cracking. Cracks in the door seal can allow cold air to escape from the refrigerator, not only wasting energy but also making the fridge work harder than it needs to.
2. Clean the coils and the drip tray; Twice a year, move your fridge out and clean the coils and the drip tray at the back. This can be as simple as giving it a quick vacuum to remove dust build up but will help your refrigerator to operate at it's optimum level.
3. Fill it up; Refrigerators need "Thermal Mass" to maintain their low temperatures. Cool foods and drinks help to absorb warm air that flows into the fridge every time the door is opened. If you don't have much in your fridge, store a few jugs of water to help fill it up.

If you have a blackout or your fridge breaks down, try to keep the door closed. An unopened refrigerator will keep food safe for up to 4 hours and the a freezer will maintain its temperature for 48 hours if it is full.
